POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Perioperative Services is a key leadership position within the hospital's Surgical Services department. This role is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the operating room, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and optimizing operational efficiency. The senior director will collaborate with various stakeholders, including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists and administrative staff, to achieve departmental goals and uphold the hospital's standards of excellence. The Associate CNO, Perioperative Services plays a critical role in shaping the future of surgical services within the hospital, contributing to the overall success and reputation of the healthcare institution

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Planning:

  • Provide visionary leadership to the operating room staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with the hospitals overall goals and objectives for Surgical Services.


Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the operating room, ensuring efficient use of resources and maintaining high standards of patient care.
  • Implement and monitor policies and procedures to enhance the effectiveness and safety of surgical services.
  • Collaborate with other department heads to coordinate patient flow and optimize resource allocation.


Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation standards, such as those set by The Joint Commission (TJC) or other governing bodies.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.


Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the operating room budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and cost-effective operations.
  • Collaborate with finance and administration teams to analyze financial performance and identify opportunities for revenue growth and expense reduction.


Staff Development and Training:

  • Recruit, train and mentor operating room staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and development.
  • Collaborate with education and training departments to ensure ongoing education and skills development for the surgical team.


Technology and Equipment:

  • Stay abreast of advances in surgical technology and equipment, making recommendations for upgrades and improvements.
  • Collaborate with the hospital's IT department to ensure the smooth integration of technology into surgical processes.


Interdepartmental Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other hospital departments, such as Anesthesia, Radiology and Nursing, to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and ensure seamless patient care.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION: Master's degree preferred to required. Doctoral degree preferred.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of New Jersey.  BLS HCP required. CNOR preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE: Extensive experience in surgical services with a minimum of 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience. Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards and best practices. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse team. Financial acumen and experience managing budgets.


PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens, along with infectious diseases. This position requires sitting at a desk or computer a majority of the day with frequent walking and standing. Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to department leadership and supervises incumbents as assigned.
