POSITION SUMMARY
The registered nurse procedural navigator will provide support for operational functions of the surgical service line. This position will be responsible for the coordination of both inpatient and outpatient scheduled procedures. The navigator will have an active partnership with all members of the interdisciplinary care team and act as a liaison to develop and implement well-coordinated plans from an operational perspective. The navigator will communicate with the procedural staff/managers, the surgeons/proceduralists and the office schedulers. The navigator will also collaborate with the OR staff, SPD and surgical vendors, and the Center for Perioperative Medicine to ensure safe delivery of care. The navigator will focus on scheduling efficiency opportunities, review of pick lists, scheduling comments and procedures scheduled. The navigator will be responsible for alerting the procedural team for any possible equipment, devices or implants that are special order or not currently in use, as well as any conflicts within the schedule.

The registered nurse procedural navigator supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Nurses hired without BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program within 1 year and complete within 3 years. Current Licensure as a registered nurse in the state of New Jersey or current multi-state license required. BLS required.
  • EXPERIENCE: 2 years of OR experience in the hospital environment is required. Customer service-focused. Well-developed communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required. Proficiency in computerized scheduling. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire. Incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances and potential injury. Position requires desk/computer work for a majority of the time. Requires some walking and standing and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. Position requires increased amounts of repetitive motion with regard to typing.

This position reports to Perioperative leadership.
