POSITION SUMMARY
The clinical manager ensures expert nursing care delivery providing staff education, consultation, evidence-based clinical practice and leadership.

The clinical manager supervises staff in their daily activities to ensure the delivery of care according to established departmental policies and procedures.  This position assists the clinical director with resolving staff issues, participating in performance reviews, monitoring budgetary practices, preparing staff schedules, developing and implementing performance improvement activities and orienting new employees to the unit.

The clinical manager serves as a key communicator for organizational updates, policy changes and education needs. This position establishes and maintains communication with physicians and other professionals to promote mutual understanding of problems and plans of care.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor's in nursing or allied health preferred, or active pursuit within six months of accepting position, with successful completion of same within an agreed-upon timeframe at date of hire.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of New Jersey. BLS required. Certification required.    
  • EXPERIENCE: Meets qualifications as outlined for specialty. 3 years of clinical experience required within specialty. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as leadership skills, required. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire. Incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

2-4 years of neonatal intensive care unit experience required.

NALS required.

Mother/Baby Unit

2-4 years of mother/baby experience preferred.

NALS required.

Operating Room

Minimum 1 year of medical/surgical experience desired. 1-2 of years operating room experience desired.

 

CNOR preferred.

Critical Care

2-4 years of medical/surgical experience required. 1-2 years of critical care experience preferred.

 

ACLS required.

CCRN preferred.

Medical/Surgical

1-2 years of medical/surgical experience preferred.

Dialysis

1-2 years of medical/surgical experience required. 1-2 years of dialysis experience preferred.

Psychiatry

1-2 years of medical/surgical experience required. 1-2 years of psychiatry experience preferred. Crisis intervention experience preferred for PIP.

Radiology

2-4 years of medical/surgical experience required. 1-2 years of interventional experience preferred. Critical care experience preferred.

Minimum 2 years of medical/surgical experience required. 1 year of telemetry experience preferred. 1 year of endo or OR experience preferred.

ACLS is required, PALS and CCRN are preferred. CGRN preferred.

Cardiac Diagnostic

1-2 years of medical/surgical experience required. 1-2 years of critical care experience preferred.

ACLS is required.

Cardiovascular ICU

2-4 years of critical care experience required.

2-4 years of cardiovascular ICU experience preferred.

ACLS required; CCRN preferred.

Intermediate Care

2-5 years of telemetry experience required.

ACLS required.

Telemetry

1-2 years of medical/surgical experience preferred.

ACLS preferred.

Radiation Oncology

1-3 years of oncology experience required. 

OCN preferred.

PACU/SDS

1-3 years of critical care experience preferred.

ACLS required, PALS preferred.

Pre-Admission Testing

1-3 years of medical/surgical experience required.

None

Prenatal, Perinatology and Family Planning

2-4 years of experience in inpatient/outpatient women's health required.

OB certification preferred.

Practice Management

1-2 years of medical/surgical experience preferred.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the ability to perform the department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, blood-borne pathogens and potential injury

Physical demands include, but are not limited to, considerabke stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing heavy equipment and excessive standing and walking. Lifting approximately 25-50 lbs. frequently; lifting 50-10 lbs. with assistance occasionally. Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to the clinical director or supervisor as established and supervises the registered nurse and patient care unit staff. This position reports to the Clinical Director of Community Health Services. This position reports to the Vice President of Business Development in Business Development Administration. In the surgery center, this position reports to the Administrative Director – Surgery Center and has no supervisor responsibilities.
