Position Summary:
The recovery specialist assists clients with improving their health and wellness, living self-directed lives and reaching their full potential. This position works with clients to support and strengthen their capacity to engage in their personal recovery. In collaboration with the client, this position develops a recovery plan and monitors progress toward goals identified in the plan. The recovery specialist has a thorough knowledge of community resources and assists clients in navigating the treatment, social services and recovery support systems. The position supports clients as they move through stages of change and acts as a positive role model of change. The recovery specialist empowers clients to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their recovery pathway.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops a recovery plan in collaboration with the client.
Educates clients on appropriately navigating the treatment, social services and recovery support systems.
Provides recovery support services based on the client's preferences and assessed needs.
Supports clients as they move through the stages of change to encourage them in their recovery.
Assists clients with accessing recovery support services in the community.
Works collaboratively with the Case Manager – STAR Program staff to ensure the client engages in services for up to one year.
Acts as a positive role model of change by sharing experiential knowledge, hope and skills.
Maintains a positive relationship with each client to reinforce, guide, and reassure the client that change is possible and is built upon multiple strengths, coping abilities and the resources of each individual.
Assists clients with gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery.
Assists in establishing and sustaining a social and physical environment supportive of recovery.
Supports and encourages clients to identify and participate in recovery community resources.
Advocates for appropriate and effective community treatment and recovery.
Empowers clients to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their individual recovery pathway.
Provides support with face-to-face sessions and/or telephone calls based on the client's preferences.
Helps clients maintain healthy community, family and social functioning.
Provides on-call coverage.
Minimal Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalency.
Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in guiding principles of recovery. Valid New Jersey driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Associate's degree.
Experience: Bilingual.
Equipment Use: Computer, copier, facsimile
