Pharmacist Resident

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree required from an ACPE-accredited college.
  • Current New Jersey State license as a registered pharmacist required for acceptance by September 1st.
  • Proficiency with computer, data analytic and clinical applications required.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Pharmacy residents will be required to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (December) and the Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy Residents (May).

GENERAL
The postgraduate year one (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency Program at AtlantiCare is currently in the candidacy status by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP). To complete the AtlantiCare Pharmacy Residency program, a pharmacy resident must complete twelve (12) months of education in the AtlantiCare Pharmacy Resident program. The twelve (12) months include allotted vacation, holiday, personal and sick time (please refer to the AtlantiCare benefits booklet for exact amount given). The residency goals, objectives and evaluation processes are consistent with the accreditation standards developed by ASHP. Full ASHP accreditation is anticipated in 2013 and retroactive for all graduating residents.

AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Pharmacy Residency Program participates in the ASHP Resident Matching Program (RMP). Residents will have completed and matched AtlantiCare in the most recent RMP conducted by National Matching Services, Inc. (NMS).

POSITION SUMMARY

Hospital Pharmacy:

The pharmacy resident ensures accurate and timely distribution of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to established procedures and standards in support of high-quality patient care. The resident interprets, evaluates and verifies medication orders, accurately assessing for drug-drug, drug-allergy and drug-disease state interactions. The resident provides drug information to clinicians and patients. It is the responsibility of the resident to maintain accurate and complete records on all patient profiles and controlled drug substances as required by law. The resident properly manages pharmaceutical inventories and maintains emergency drug supplies, automated dispensing machines and general medication security on the nursing units. This position directs and verifies the pharmacy technician's work. The resident will be responsible for maintaining competency and participating in various clinical programs, such as Anticoagulation Management, Pharmacokinetic Monitoring, Adverse Drug Event Monitoring, patient care rounding, pharmacotherapy optimization and general medication safety.

By participating in educational activities, the pharmacy resident assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE:
Pharmacy residents will be required to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (December) and the Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy Residents (May).

QUALIFCATIONS:
  • EDUCATION: Doctor of pharmacy degree required from an ACPE-accredited college
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current New Jersey State license as a registered pharmacist required for acceptance by September 1st. ACLS preferred. CPR preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE: Proficiency with computer, data analytic and clinical applications required. Good communication and interpersonal skills required.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The pharmacy resident demonstrates the ability to perform the department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool and as assigned annually.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential exists for exposure to the hazards and risk in the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances and potential injury.

Requires the ability to stand approximately 60% of the time and requires occasional reaching.
