The emergency medical communicator is responsible for all aspects of the operation of MEDCOM, ensuring a professional and consistent standard of all communications for Atlantic and Cape May counties, as well as all affiliated regional service areas as needed.
The emergency medical communicator is responsible for accurately maintaining MEDCOM reports and logs, disbursing incoming paperwork to proper files and personnel, and completing thorough shift reports. The emergency medical communicator orients and trains new personnel and assists all departments as needed.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current New Jersey Emergency Medical Dispatcher and 911 certification required within 3 months from date of hire or transfer. Current BLS certification (professional rescuer or healthcare provider level) required within one month of hire or transfer. Proof of completing National Incident Command Courses ICS-100 and IS-700 required.

EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of local EMS and aeromedical systems and EMS radio communications preferred. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire. Incumbents within the position will be trained appropriately and skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. EMT requirements mandatory if cross-trained as BLS provider.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances and potential injury. Potential for psychological and physical stress. Work involves exposure to various climate extremes and weather conditions and exposure to disagreeable odors and body wastes. Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment or patients (50+ pounds, assisted or unassisted). Must maintain physical fitness necessary to move rapidly when required in emergencies.
