Kitchen Utility Worker

Location: Mays Landing, NJ  |  Position Status: Full Time  |  Position Shift: Days
Under the direction of the Culinary supervisor/chef supervisor, the kitchen utility worker is responsible for washing all dishes, pots, pans, flatware; sweeping and mopping floors; maintaining cleanliness of all equipment; and ensuring all deliveries are stored properly following first-in, first-out procedures.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Performs routine sanitation tasks in the main kitchen and cafeteria areas, including sweeping and mopping all floors.
  2. Works in the dish room, puts all necessary serviceware through dishwasher, and washes pots and pans.
  3. Responsible for the deliveries, stocking and inventory of kitchen food and supplies.
  4. Follows company and client safety, security and loss-prevention policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe and secure environment. Follows proper food-handling procedures.
  5. Knowledgeable in requirements of local, county and state regulations and chemical safety practices.
  6. Responsible for cosmetic upkeep in kitchen areas, i.e., painting, patching, scrubbing and waxing floors.
  7. Compiles/completes orders; return orders to supervisor for review and filing.
  8. Attends and participates in all required meetings and trainings.
  9. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with state and local regulations.
  10. Performs other job-related duties assigned by Culinary supervisor/chef supervisor to ensure all dietary services are completed.
  11. Communicates regularly with the supervisor and keeps him/her up to date with culinary issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Capable of multitasking and correctly handling culinary problems.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of maintenance issues relating to Culinary department.
  3. Demonstrates the ability to stand, bend, stoop, climb and lift.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with all employees.
  5. Ability to be respectful of diverse cultures and ethnic and religious differences.
  6. Knowledge of menu to ensure proper serving utensils and condiments are available for all meals.  

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:   
None

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write in, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must have working knowledge of chemical safety practices.
  • Available to work overtime, holidays and weekends as assigned.
  • Must have an understanding of first-in, first-out (FIFO) stocking practices.
  • Must be able to walk, stoop, stand, reach and lift up to 50 pounds most of the working day.
