  • Knowledgeable of methadone-related issues regarding drug abuse and recovery information.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the clinical supervisor, the counselor intern shall assist in the orderly and systematic operation of the Residential Treatment Unit. Facilitate the attendance of clients for all John Brooks Recovery Center (JBRC) clinical/social activities in program schedule. Monitors client engagement and behavior in scheduled treatment activities. Orients new clients to the program and specific treatment modality. Monitors clients' urine when scheduled and randomly. Assists in building searches. Familiarizes self with recordkeeping practices and standards. Participates in administrative and clinical meetings as required. Conducts didactic lectures as assigned and co-facilitates/facilitates group counseling sessions. Practices 12 core functions of counseling. Participates in supervisory sessions and six-month evaluations. Learns and adheres to ethical standards of counselors as documented in the Alcohol and Drug Counselors handbook. Informs clients that clinical services are being provided by counselor in training under the supervision of a licensed counselor.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalency. Bachelor's or master's degree preferred.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must be actively pursuing CADC, LCADC, LSW or LPC.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires repetitive motion, hearing, pushing, reaching, reading, seeing, speaking, standing and walking a majority of the time. Spends time with such equipment as a computer terminal, fax machine, copier and telephone.

This position reports to department leadership.
