Consumer Advocate

Location: Atlantic City, NJ  |  Position Status: Full Time  |  Position Shift: Days
Reports to: Director AIS/MHIOP

Trainings: CPI, CPR, QPR

The consumer advocate will demonstrate warmth, hopefulness and enthusiasm in their work on behalf of consumers and will have a personal philosophy that is person-centered and embodies wellness, recovery and resiliency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Greeting and welcoming individuals in a warm, engaging manner.
  • Fostering a sense of safety and comfort by engaging with individuals and accompanying them to the living room area.
  • Sitting with individuals to discuss issues that brought them to the Center.
  • Explaining what to expect from our services.
  • Offering reassurance and encouragement.
  • Ensuring consumers that they are available to them through their involvement with the program.
  • Assisting consumers in developing Wellness and Recovery Action crisis plans or Psychiatric Advance Directive.
  • Supporting individuals through their involvement with the program and in their transition to clinical and community supports.
  • Documentation must be completed within one (1) calendar day of service delivery.
  • Productivity goals shall meet percentage as designated by department.

  • Experience: Peer position that requires that the applicant self-declare past or current treatment for a mental illness. The consumer advocate will be a consumer with demonstrated volunteer or paid work experience providing case management, support and advocacy with individuals with serious mental illness.
  • Valid NJ driver's license for use of company vehicle.

Equipment Use: Computer, copier, facsimile.
