POSITION SUMMARY
The coding manager is responsible for directing the inpatient and outpatient coding and data abstraction function. The coding manager is responsible for monitoring the coding staff, scheduling, new hire training and active participation in the annual evaluation process. This position designs, implements and maintains coding quality monitoring, health information management compliance and education of hospital staff involved with coding and data abstracting. The manager ensures the quality of service by maintaining current knowledge of coding and DRG grouping, quality initiatives, data collection and reporting, outpatient coding systems and federal compliance requirements and effectively communicating this information to departmental staff and other affected hospital departments. The manager assists with management of the computer systems used for data collection and coding and provides data analysis and statistical reporting. This position actively interacts with the medical staff, ancillary departments and financial services to ensure accurate and complete coding and statistical information. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
