The chaplain is responsible for the delivery of pastoral services to patients and families to ensure that the spiritual aspects of care are met.
This position provides spiritual support to patients and families that enhance the delivery of quality patient care. The chaplain provides pastoral counseling to patients and families, responds to spiritual support requests and acts as a liaison with the patient's private clergy. This position develops and presents staff and community education regarding sensitivity to the spiritual concerns of patients/families.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of theology. Minimum one unit of CPE. Master's degree preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Ordination or licensure preferred. Preferred endorsement/approval for chaplaincy by candidate's denomination or religious/spiritual organization. Valid New Jersey driver's license and proof of registration and insurance required.
EXPERIENCE: 2-4 years of experience in counseling required. Experience working with patients and families dealing with life-threatening illness and/or death preferred. The qualified chaplain is certified and in good standing with a pastoral cognate group recognized by the Coalition on Ministry in Specialized Settings or The Joint Commission or has documented equivalent in education, training and experience with evidence of relevant continuing education.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances and potential injury. This position requires frequent walking and standing, including walking up stairs. This position requires frequent periods of driving a motor vehicle.
